THE FIRST ITALIAN ANTIQUE FAIR
DEDICATED TO ANCIENT BOOKS AND PRINTS

Founded in Mantua in 1975, Mantova Libri Mappe Stampe is the first Italian antique fair for bibliophiles and collectors of ancient books and prints.

Mantova Libri Mappe Stampe inherits the tradition of the longest-running Italian event dedicated to the world of antiquarian books and prints – Il Frontespizio, renowned exhibition created in 1975 in Mantua – with the aim of promoting and spreading the passion for ancient papers.

Over 55 dealers, coming from Italy and abroad, confirm their presence at this well-established event, including antiquarian bookshops and professionals in the fields of antiquarian printing and cartography.

The highly qualified exhibition offer and the internationality of the dealers involved make it a key event for lovers of the industry, as well as a unique opportunity for enthusiasts and novices alike.

Historically, the event is held twice a year, in May and September, under the arcades of the cloister of the former Augustinian monastery of S. Agnese, now site of the “Francesco Gonzaga” Diocesan Museum.

With the collaboration of the “Francesco Gonzaga” Diocesan Museum, the Mirabilia association, and the patronage of the City of Mantua and of Roberto Almagià association. Media partnership: Maremagnum.com, Abebooks.it, Vialibri.net

Visit Mantua

Mantova Libri Mappe Stampe is held in Mantua , city of art among the most representative examples of the Italian and European Renaissance. With the nearby city of Sabbioneta, with which it shares the rich legacy left by the Gonzaga dynasty, Mantua is considered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO: this city boasts must-see cultural attractions, such as Palazzo Ducale, Palazzo Te and the Basilica of S. Andrea, within which are hosted works of artists such as Mantegna, Correggio, Romano and others.

The "Francesco Gonzaga" Diocesan Museum, housed in the former Augustinian monastery of S. Agnese, is located in the historic center, less than 400 meters from piazza Sordello and from the main cultural attractions of the city.

Inside of the museum there are paintings and sculptures which retrace two thousand years of Mantuan history with works, among others, by Andrea Mantegna, Correggio, Bonacolsi l'Antico, Bernardino Campi, Domenico Fetti, Giovanni Baglione, A.M. Viani.

It is also home to the world’s richest collection of late medieval armour.

During the days of the event, visitors of Mantova Libri Mappe Stampe are entitled to a reduced ticket to visit the Museum's collection.

"Rinasce dopo dieci anni la prima mostra della carta antica. Era il 1975 quando, grazie all'associazione culturale Il Frontespizio, si affacciava per la prima volta sul panorama italiano un evento dedicato alla carta antica e preziosa. Dopo una pausa di quasi 10 anni, rinasce Mantova Libri Mappe Stampe. Con oltre 40 espositori." [13.07.2019]
